The French War on Thinness
A bill making much progress in France threatens to outlaw the promotion of “extreme thinness.” Violators, including in the fashion industry, could face three years in prison. “The National Assembly approved the bill in a series of votes Tuesday, after the legislation won unanimous support from the ruling conservative UMP party.” Empowered conservatives are anti-freedom in France, too, it seems. And what is considered promotion and encouragement of extreme thinness? We shall discover, it seems, and I imagine it will take some case law to do so.
It’d be interesting to see if such policies escalate, along with the war on obesity we see in the West. One day, perhaps, only those with medium build will be allowed to show their faces in public.
