Eland’s Partition Plan Getting Major Traction

Not only has the U.S. Senate embraced the idea to partition Iraq, but now it’s becoming a campaign issue. Brownback has again touted his plan to convert Iraq into a three-state solution with a weak central state. This, of course, was Ivan Eland’s idea all along—at least since he wrote on it in May ’04 and published a full paper on the topic in January ’05. The Institute sent this paper to Congress shortly thereafter. If only this peaceful, sensible exit strategy had been considered back then, many thousands of lives and billions of dollars could have perhaps been saved.
